Accounting

The South African accounting curriculum covers financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, and taxation, preparing students for careers as Chartered Accountants (CA(SA))

and other accounting roles. Core subjects include financial accounting concepts, GAAP principles, bookkeeping, and final accounts, with a focus on practical skills and applied competencies. 

Financial Accounting

This involves understanding accounting concepts, the accounting equation, bookkeeping, final accounts, and financial statements, including reconciliations. 

Auditing

Students learn about auditing procedures, governance, ethics, and risk management. 

Management Accounting

This area focuses on using financial

information for planning, controlling, and

decision-making within organizations. 

Taxation

This includes tax principles, regulations,

and their application to

businesses and individuals.

Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc):

This degree is the first step towards becoming a CA(SA), focusing on financial accounting,

auditing, taxation, and management accounting.

Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Sciences:

This degree is also endorsed by SAICA and prepares students for the CA(SA) qualification and offers

specializations in areas like Financial Management Sciences, Internal Auditing, and Taxation.

Advanced Diplomas:

Institutions like Unisa offer advanced diplomas in Accounting Sciences with specializations in areas like

Financial Accounting, Internal Auditing, Management Accounting, and Taxation.

Certificates and Diplomas:

Various certificate and diploma programs, like those offered by SA Accounting Academy,

cater to different levels of accounting expertise, from bookkeeping to technical financial accounting.
