Biology
The South African curriculum for Life Sciences (Grades 10-12)
is structured around four main knowledge strands: Life at the Molecular,
Cellular and Tissue Level; Life Processes in Plants and Animals; Environmental Studies;
and Diversity, Change and Continuity. The curriculum aims to provide a broad
understanding of biological concepts and their applications.
Life at the Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Level
This strand focuses on the fundamental building blocks of life, including cells, tissues, and the molecules that make up living organisms.
Environmental
Studies
This strand examines the interactions
between living organisms and their environment, including ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation.
Life Processes
in Plants and Animals
This strand explores the various life processes that occur in plants and animals, such as photosynthesis, respiration, digestion,
and reproduction.
Diversity, Change
and Continuity
This strand delves into the diversity of life on Earth, the processes of evolution, and the continuity of life through generations.
2 Sciences !?
Biology (now known as Life Sciences) and
Physics (a component of Physical Sciences) are distinct subjects.

BIOLOGY emphasizes the study of living organisms,
their structures, functions, and interactions.

PHYSICS focuses on the fundamental laws governing the physical world,
including matter, energy, and motion
